Of the approximate total of 52,000 existing wells on the books at the COGCC, 36,930 produce less than the equivalent of 15 barrels of oil/day. Of those, 17,285 produce less than 1 barrel.
A “stripper” well is any well that produces less than the equivalent of 15 barrels per day. Such low production exempts stripper wells from usual severance taxes.
Overall 71% of Colorado’s wells are strippers.
