Gov. Hickenlooper, DO NOT appeal Martinez ruling!

On March 23, the CO Court of Appeals sided with teenage activist and Earth Guardians director Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (above), who filed suit, and reversed a lower court ruling so the state could have to prioritize protection of public health, safety, and the environment over the interests of the fossil fuel industry. On March 23, the Colorado Court of Appeals ruled that the “state must protect health and the environment before allowing oil and gas drilling” in Martinez v. COGCC.

Last week, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission announced that it was appealing the ruling.

Click here to join the League of Oil & Gas Impacted Coloradans (LOGIC) in asking Governor Hickenlooper NOT to appeal the Martinez v. COGCC case.

The final decision on the appeal rests with Governor John Hickenlooper. The Governor has until May 18 to execute the appeal of the Martinez ruling to the Colorado Supreme Court.

The ruling simply states that the COGCC must protect public health, safety, and the environment as a condition of allowing oil and gas development.

Please join LOGIC in asking the Governor to put health and safety first by clicking here. Join fellow Coloradans and ask the Governor NOT to exercise the appeal of the Martinez ruling.

LOGIC will submit this letter on behalf of impacted Coloradans at the end of the day on Monday, May 15.
