Become a citizen scientist!

River Watch volunteers

Get involved! Learn how to become a “citizen-scientist” and protect the quality of our waterways in Garfield County. There are many creeks in the Gas Patch that are not routinely tested for pollutants, so the Grand Valley Citizens Alliance, in partnership with River Watch, will be conducting a water test training session.

Rifle boat launch
(The boat launch is at the entrance to the I-70 Rest Area and Rifle Chamber of Commerce.)

River Watch members will train participants on how to scientifically gather water samples and watch for signs of pollution. GVCA would like to recruit volunteers to adopt a section of a waterway not currently in the River Watch program. If you would like to learn more about the program or the testing training, please contact Joyce Wizer for GVCA at 970-208-2028 or by email: b.wizer@hotmail.com
