Grand Valley Citizens Alliance Meeting
Monday, September 9, 2013
6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Rifle Library

From GVCA Chair Leslie Robinson:

GVCA members and the public are invited to attend GVCA’s meeting at the Rifle Library on Monday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 pm. Please join us in a “jam session” about important upcoming events and programs.

We are going to ask for member input about GVCA’s proposed upcoming “Air Quality in the Gaslands” forum set for October 9th in Glenwood. We would like to invite other sponsors such as the Roaring Fork Sierra Club, Thompson Divide Coalition, and other local groups invested in protecting the health and environment in Garfield County.

GVCA will be involved with the upcoming Air Quality Commission’s revisit of air standards and the oil-and-gas industry’s impact on air quality. AQCC hearings are scheduled for February 2014. Rulemaking will be officially initiated in mid-Novemeber. We need a volunteer to serve on a statewide air quality steering committee, representing GVCA along with many environmental and O&G citizen-activist groups across the state. Plus, we will need representation at the hearings.

Also, GVCA will be soon kicking off a new citizen-awareness program (perhaps the first in the state) that relates to protecting our waterways from the negative effects of the oil-and-gas industry. Essentially, our “Neighborhood Water Watch” will provide tools to train community members how to identify the immediate and observable surface impacts of hydrocarbon releases in our local creeks and rivers.

We hope to see you all there on Monday!
