Re-2 quietly seeks public comments

April 13, 2012

Garfield County

As an opinionated, diehard activist I’m constantly on the lookout for some governmental entity that doesn’t give a crap about public opinion and yet to keep up public relations is seeking a fresh batch of comments to disregard.

This week it’s Re-2. The school district is seeking public comments about their new Leave the Kids at Home 4-day school week plan. Here’s how I know they don’t really want your comments. The article wasn’t published in the PI, the widely distributed FREE newspaper. It was published in the Citizen Telegram, which costs 50 cents and nobody reads. Luckily the article is posted on the website. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have a clue.

Once you read the article you’ll see what I mean. Re-2 doesn’t care what the public thinks. Makes commenting a lot more fun. And since when do we aspire to be like Pueblo or Salida?

According to the FAQ, it looks like Re-2 has the money in savings after all, they just don’t want to spend it. Sort of like Gasfield County. Gotta save it for a rainy day. They are also thumbing their noses at the state’s no interest loan program because it might not be there next year. So the folks at Re-2 are taking the cautious, pessimistic approach. Our kids will have to suffer some time in the future. Let’s make sure to start them off at an educational disadvantage.

Rifle, New Castle, and Silt just became numbers 3, 4, and 5, behind Pueblo and Salida for the worst towns to raise kids in Colorado.
