Thanksgiving Day ski report

skiing

West Elk trails

Tod started packing the trails with the snowmobile today. From the trailhead, along Hwy 819 to Kay’s Loop and around Kay’s Loop have been packed. The gate is still closed at the top of the hill on Kay’s. The snowpack is very thin. Early season conditions exist, such as brush and bare spots. Snow conditions vary from icy, wet chunks to packed powder in the trees. Temps in the high 30s to low 40s today with occasional gusty winds.

Ski with caution. Fine for snowshoes.

Snowmass

We skied Snowmass on Sunday (11/20) and took advantage of the Classic Pass holder $32 lift tickets. There are other lifts open but the main two are Village Express and Big Burn. The top of Big Burn is open on the left side (descent) and everyone is funneled into Mick’s Gully and Sneaky’s. Sneaky’s has the best snowpack but it’s icy in spots. Lower Mick’s was a slalom course of hazard poles. Many rocks, bare spots and stumps. From the top of the Village Express lift and down the snow was icy with bare spots and stumps. Conditions weren’t the best but the price was right.

Happy Thanksgiving!
