COGCC releases H2S fun faqs

September 12, 2011

Colorado, gas wells

Don’t worry. Be happy. The COGCC has released a picture book about high levels of hydrogen sulfide in the Piceance Basin and a few faqs about H2S.

Summary of Hydrogen Sulfide South of Parachute, Colorado

Really? They could only come up with 9 questions?

Well I have some.

What are the effects on public health from long-term exposure to low levels of H2S?

Not so good according to this 2006 study:

Hydrogen Sulfide, Oil and Gas, and People’s Health

Does Colorado have an ambient hydrogen sulfide standard?

According the study, it does not.

Seems like now more than ever we need air quality studies. Oh, that’s right. The BOCC and the state scrapped the air quality studies because of the gas drillers “uncomfortability” with the “public health implications”. Apparently the gas industry is interested in just the faqs.
