Tar Sands Pipeline protests underway

In September, President Obama will decide whether to approve or reject the 1,700-mile long Keystone XL Pipeline from the tar sands of Alberta, Canada, to refineries in Texas.

A planned two-week long protest of the pipeline began on August 20 and will last through September 3. To date 322 protestors have been arrested making this the biggest act of civil disobedience in the climate movement’s history.

If built, the Keystone XL Pipeline would lock the US into dependency on the dirtiest of petroleum fuels and the most expensive to produce. According to NASA’s Dr. James Hansen – America’s top climate scientist – the full exploitation of Canada’s tar sands would be “game over” for efforts to solve climate change. And that doesn’t even take into consideration environmental damages from leaks or breaks along the pipeline route.

Colorado gas news – this just in

State: Potentially deadly gas at drilling rigs
COGCC still digging, believes no danger to public, workers
So — if you smell rotten eggs, it’s not from hydrogen sulfide. It’s probably coming from the COGCC.

Other news —

Past earthquakes in southern Colorado studied for links to gas fracking, water disposal
If you’re like me, every time you hear about an earthquake in Colorado – or say, Virginia – you ask, “Is there gas well drilling anywhere near the epicenter?”

Halliburton Executive Drinks Fracking Fluid At Conference
So here’s the deal – Halliburton CEO Dave Lesar got some underling to drink what he said was fracking fluid but even if that’s what it was – it wasn’t like he was under oath or anything and oil execs are notorious la-la-la-liars – it wasn’t even the same crap currently in use in the fields. No it was – tada! – CleanStim, which allegedly contains ingredients from the food industry, and as everyone knows our food industry is oh-so-safe. CleanStim is probably a hoax. This “feel good” moment brought to you by Halliburton because they know we want them to care about the environment, but they’re just not that into it.

VIDEO: Fracking sand air emissions caught on tape in Garfield County
Citizen activists use video evidence to keep the pressure on Halliburton, Noble Energy, and COGCC about hydrogen sulfide. So I’m doing my part by posting this video.
