BLM is holding hearings on oil shale development

DENVER (AP) — The Bureau of Land Management plans a series of hearings in the West on the impacts of oil shale development. The hearings began Tuesday, April 26, in Salt Lake City, UT after Interior Secretary Ken Salazar decided to take a fresh look at a federal oil shale plan that was released in 2008 by the Bush administration. That plan would open 2 million acres of Western public lands to oil shale research and development. The potential impacts include water pollution, huge power needs, and boom-bust economic risks.  Hearings are planned in Colorado on May 3 in Rifle and May 4 in Denver.

From the BLM’s press statement:
“The public is being invited to submit comments and concerns on potential resource issues that should be discussed in the NEPA analysis, including input on historic and cultural resources within the areas proposed for land use plan amendment.”

Hi, Did you go the hearing? If so, did you write anything about them? Would love to hear from/talk to some people that were there!

Hi Bob — the meetings in Rifle are today. I can’t make it to the afternoon session but I’m going to try and get over there for 2-nite’s session.
