Turning Swamp Land into Gasland

THE DOOR TO HELL - the site of a former natural gas drilling rig IN RUSSIA where the ground caved in and left a giant pit that has been burning from the escaping natural gas for the past TWENTY YEARS.

Huzzah for Gasland!

This week the film Gasland was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Talk about consciousness-raising. Congratulations to filmmaker Josh Fox. Here’s a great newsworthy interview at HuffPost:

Oscar Nominee Josh Fox Speaks Out About Oil Lobby’s Efforts to Crush His Film

Awesome February coming up. Packers in the Superbowl and Gasland at the Oscars. Woohoo!

Look! I’m in The Paper

Well, the back of my head anyway. More good news. The COGCC hearing on Antero’s request for 10-acre drill spacing has been delayed until April 4.

Another meeting between Antero and local residents is planned for Wednesday, February 9. More details to come.

We have some swampland in Silt we’d like to sell you

They brought back the livestream of SiltBOT meetings just in time to see Mayor Dave’s PowerPoint presentation, complete with irritating sound effects. You can read about it here:

Silt looks to kick-start town’s economy
Mayor has plans for city to develop a shopping center in Silt

Mayor Dave talked about the benefits of creating an Urban Renewal Authority – URA. Too bad they don’t call it the Urban Renewal Association – URASS. Now that would be funny.

So what’s the purpose of forming a URA?

Because Mayor Dave has a big idea. He wants the town to borrow the money to drain the swamp and develop the “Wet Lands” Shopping Center. No. I am not making this up. Read the article. Cui bono? Well, it just so happens the swamp is located across the road from Mayor Dave’s Autumn Ridge PUD. That’s right. Mayor Dave wants Silt to foot the bill to develop the swamp, which in turn would make his not-yet-financed development more attractive to investors.

Of course Mayor Dave says he just wants to make Silt a more attractive place to live. Such a comedian. Wonder if he thinks we’re too stupid to figure it out.

Here’s an idea. Want to make Silt a more attractive place to live? How about let’s start with safe drinking water. Or lets work together to limit gas well drilling on Silt Mesa and Peach Valley to preserve the health and welfare of the people.

Wanted: One more SiltBOT

Yup. That’s right. We’re down one SiltBOT. Trustee Joe Sos has resigned. Letters of interest will be accepted until February 16, 2011. More information is available at the Town of Silt website.

So I was telling Tod about it, “Rick Aluise asked me if you would consider coming back on the Board. He said a lot has changed.”

“Is Dave still the mayor?” Tod asked.

  2. Peggy Tibbetts Says:

Of course wetlands are protected. Not sure how they would pull off draining it. I guess Dave is for real. And he’s mayor cuz Meredith Robinson ran against him so there wasn’t much choice. I didn’t vote for either one.

Thanks for popping in, my favorite fan, and big big thanks for spreading the word on FB. Muchas gracias! Go green!
