You didn’t hear about this in the MSM. Here’s the truth about what happened when over 1500 “guys and gals” held a little get together on September 13, in Anchorage:
Alaska Women Reject Palin Rally
We begin in Anchorage, Alaska, where a group of average women decided to hold a small rally to let it be known that their Governor, Sarah Palin, does not represent their views on many of the issues that are important in their lives …
I love their signs. Empowered women are so creative. Just had to share some of my faves –
Here’s an anonymous eye witness report circulating the inter-tubes:
[The] Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was to be held outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage. Home made signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaska women, or men. I had no idea what to expect.
The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee. It made me wonder what other things have started with small groups of women talking over coffee. It’s probably an impressive list. These women hatched the plan, printed up flyers, posted them around town, and sent notices to local media outlets. One of those media outlets was KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally “a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots,” and read the home phone numbers of the organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought. The women, of course, received some nasty, harassing and threatening messages.
I felt a bit apprehensive. I’d been disappointed before by the turnout at other rallies. Basically, in Anchorage, if you can get 25 people to show up at an event, it’s a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100 people there that aren’t sent by Eddie Burke, we’ll be doing good. A real statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15 demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing “socialist baby-killing maggot” haters.
It’s a good thing I wasn’t tailgating when I saw the crowd in front of the library or I would have ended up in somebody’s trunk. When I got there, about 20 minutes early, the line of sign wavers stretched the full length of the library grounds, along the edge of the road, 6 or 7 people deep! I could hardly find a place to park. I nabbed one of the last spots in the library lot, and as I got out of the car and started walking, people seemed to join in from every direction, carrying signs.
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn’t honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This just doesn’t happen here.
Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up. He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn’t be heard. Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.
So, if you’ve been doing the math Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin’s rally that got all the national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery. Feel free to spread the pictures around to anyone who needs to know that Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans. The citizens of Alaska, who know her best, have things to say.
Enjoy!

The election is less than 7 weeks away. Don’t wait for November 4. Now is the time to get ready to vote.
Are you registered?
You have until October 6 to register.
DO NOT assume you are registered to vote. Voter registration lists are constantly updated. During those updates, voters can be removed from the list for any number of reasons. Check with your County Clerk’s office and make sure you are registered, and make sure your name and address are accurate.
If you are a student away from home, you can register to vote in the county where you attend college. It’s perfectly legal. But it’s better if you register to vote by mail in your hometown to avoid any challenges on Election Day. In 1994, my daughter Ema was not allowed to vote in Glenwood Springs, where she attended college, even though she showed up Election Day with her voter registration card in hand and a photo ID and electric bill as proof of residence. So believe me, it happens. The same thing has happened to hundreds – maybe thousands – of students.
And it’s happening right now in at Virginia Tech
Also, double check your polling station because polling station locations have been switched around a lot in the past several years.
Better yet? Vote by mail.
Mail ballots and early voting
You can request a mail ballot until October 28.
This year Colorado has 18 ballot issues to vote on. You can read about them here:
For that reason Governor Ritter and many County Clerks are recommending that you vote by mail or take advantage of early voting.
Ritter advocates mail, early voting to speed up Colorado’s election results
You can vote early from October 20 to October 31, at designated polling stations. Go to your county’s website to find local early voting stations.
In Garfield County you can vote early (10/20 -10/31) at the following locations:
Glenwood Springs Courthouse – 109 8th Street, (Room 101c) – Glenwood Springs
Human Services Building (Conference Room) – 195 West 14th Street – Rifle
You can avoid long lines on Election Day by voting early. However if you vote in person or you vote early, you will have to vote on an electronic voting machine, with no way of knowing whether your vote will be counted. And voting by mail isn’t any safer. It’s just easier because of the size of our ballot.
If you decide to vote by mail, you should obtain your ballot through your County Clerk’s office. DO NOT respond to requests that come from any other source.
In Colorado, besides a HUGE ballot, we have other problems hanging over Election Day. Don’t be misled by the misleading headline below. Read the article …

Wake up and vote!
There are no guarantees in life. There is no safe way to vote. The only way to safeguard your right to vote is to VOTE. Take my word for it. Experts aggress. When more people vote, it’s harder to steal an election.
Next week I’ll show you how they’re already trying to steal the election …

Did you hear the breaking news today?
Wide-Ranging Ethics Scandal Emerges at Interior Dept.
By Charlie SavageWASHINGTON — As Congress prepares to debate expansion of drilling in taxpayer-owned coastal waters, the Interior Department agency that collects oil and gas royalties has been caught up in a wide-ranging ethics scandal — including allegations of financial self-dealing, accepting gifts from energy companies, cocaine use and sexual misconduct.
In three reports delivered to Congress on Wednesday, the department’s inspector general, Earl E. Devaney, found wrongdoing by a dozen current and former employees of the Minerals Management Service [Denver], which collects about $10 billion in royalties annually and is one of the government’s largest sources of revenue other than taxes.
“A culture of ethical failure” besets the agency, Mr. Devaney wrote in a cover memo.
The reports portray a dysfunctional organization that has been riddled with conflicts of interest, unprofessional behavior and a free-for-all atmosphere for much of the Bush administration’s watch …
So there we have it. The Interior Dept is in bed with the energy companies. For real. At long last, we have confirmation of what we suspected all along. The energy companies are running the show. This story would be funny if it wasn’t so disgusting. And you can bet this is just the tip of the iceberg.
It’s such a pre-meditated and clever scam on the part of the energy companies. Instead of paying just property taxes on the oil and gas they extract from public lands, they can pay back the taxpayers with actual oil and gas, which in turn the government can sell on the open market, presumably for a profit. Except that’s not what happened.
If there was any justice left in this world, these revelations would trigger widespread investigations and audits of ALL governmental agencies that deal directly with the energy companies including the COGCC and County Commissions.
But I’m guessing the truth will once again get lost in the debate over who said “lipstick on a pig” first.
The Denver Post would have us believe they’ve been onto these shenanigans all along. Except it’s now 2008 and some of this stuff goes back to 2002-2003. Right in front of their noses. And rumors have been flying ever since. Anyway here’s their take on it:
Interior Dept. scandal: Sex, drugs, energy deals probed at Denver office
Denver Post staff and wire reportsWASHINGTON — Federal investigators say government officials handling billions of dollars in oil royalties engaged in illicit sex with employees of energy companies and received improper gifts …

Voting Machines Can Never Be Trusted, Says GOP Computer Security Expert
If a Democrat said what cyber-security expert Stephen Spoonamore is saying, he would be dismissed as a partisan conspiracy theorist.
